Many groundbreaking discoveries have sprung from exploration and experimentation. The discovery of the light-emitting diode (LED), for instance, began with a faint, red glow. It might have seemed insignificant at the time, but it was the spark that led to the bright, energy-efficient LED lights we know today.

My own journey of experimentation mirrors this story. While running NWS, I found myself needing to deeply understand ASIC miners to develop custom data center software. This deep dive inadvertently left me with a stake in digital currency.

From Faint Glimmers to Bright Lights

Over the 2017 holiday break, a spark of inspiration led me to combine my background in economics with my software expertise. The result? A proof-of-concept algorithmic trading system that generated a minute but statistically significant return of 0.01%. Like the faint red glow of the early LED, this was enough to open the door to further exploration and optimization. And just like the LED, this faint glimmer evolved into something more substantial, culminating in the creation of OHMSCapital.

The Power of "Just Starting"

In this journey, I've found that one of the most crucial steps in experimentation is simply to start. Yes, the initial attempts might be underwhelming - or as I like to say, "embrace the suck". But it's through this phase of stumbling and learning that we refine our ideas and skills. Remember, each failed attempt is not a setback but a stepping stone toward success.

Seeing Results in Unexpected Ways

Lastly, be open to the unexpected. In both the case of the LED and my algorithmic trading experiment, the initial results were faint and could easily have been overlooked. But by staying curious and open, we can uncover valuable insights and opportunities. The key is not to predefine the direction or magnitude of your results. Instead, allow your experiments to guide you to unexpected discoveries.
